Momos

Very popular street food east of Asia. Its a steamed dumpling made with flour and stuffed with filling of your choice and served with hot sauce. Delicious light anytime snack.

Preparation Time- 30 min

Cooking Time- 4 min

Serves- 4 ( 20 dumplings)

Ingredients For Momos Wrap

Plain Flour – 1.5 cup flour

Salt – 1/2 tsp

Oil – 2 tsp

Water (hot) – 1/4 cup or more if needed

Method:

I a bowl mix flour,salt ,oil and mix well.

Add water in parts and knead in to a soft dough. Apply little oil on top of dough and rest it for 30 min

Ingredients For Filling

Oil – 2 tsp

Cabbage (Shredded) – 3/4 cup

Carrot (shredded) – 1/2 cup

Springs Onions – 1/4 cup

Bell Pepper – 1/4 cup

Garlic – 1 tsp

Black Pepper- 1/4 tsp

Soy Sauce – 1 tsp (or as per taste)

salt as required

Method :

In a wide pan add oil ,once hot add garlic and stir fry for few seconds , to this add all the shredded vegetables .

Increase the flame and cook on high heat for a minute . Add soy sauce , black pepper, salt and cook further for 2 mins ,switch off the flame and add spring onion .

Folding Momos

Take a small ball size dough and roll it in circle ( 3 inch wide). Place 1 or 2 tsp of stuffing in the center.

For moon shape lift one side of the edge and start pleating,keep pleating one by one and join them in the middle .

Prepare all momos and cover under a damp cloth till you are ready to steam

Steaming Momos

To steam momos you can use pressure cooker (without whistle) ,bamboo steamer,idly stand . Fill water to the bottom of steamer and boil . keep the flame to medium high

Grease you mould and place momos with some gap . Steam for 4-5 minutes.

Do not overcook , as the dough becomes dense and dry.The steaming time may vary upon the thickness of momos’ cover.

When you touch the momo then dough should not feel sticky to you. This means they are done and the momos will have a transparent look.

Once done, serve with hot sauce of your choice. Suggested sauces are chilli sauce, red chilli chutney, soy sauce.
